My birthday gift to you! Free stuff:)

March 28, 2011

Today might be my birthday, but I’m not the type who enjoys being the center of attention.  So I’m throwing a contest instead to divert the attention and include you, whoever you are, in the celebration.

With all of the recent talk around the Paleo lifestyle (which was even featured on CP24 this week, by my other boyfriend, Bryce Wylde), I wanted to give you a chance to get your hands on some of the best Paleo books written by Dr. Loren Cordain.  He is “one of the world’s leading experts on the natural human diet of our Stone Age ancestors.  Also the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts…and his bestselling guide on Paleolithic eating has been adopted as a bible of the CrossFit movement.”

I pretend to know what I’m talking about, but this guy is the real deal.  He’s done all the research for us and summed it up nicely in his books.

My birthday gift to you:

I am giving away these popular books to 3 lucky winners (total value per prize is approximately $41 plus HST):

  • The Paleo Diet – This will give you all the reasons WHY you should be following a Paleo lifestyle.  Whether you’re healthy or not.  This book includes a breakthrough nutrition program based on eating the foods we were genetically designed to eat plus the latest information drawn from breaking Paleolithic research.

  • The Paleo Diet Cookbook – This will arm you with the HOW and WHAT as far as Paleo eating goes.  It includes 150 simple, all-new recipes for delicious and Paleo-friendly breakfasts, brunches, lunches, dinners, snacks, and beverages.

Your gift to me (and for a chance to win):

I’ve participated in enough contests to know how painful and time consuming they can be.  Since it’s my birthday and I’m in a great mood, I’ll make this easy for you.  No need to submit a 200 word essay telling me why you deserve to win.  There are two simple ways to enter into the contest (CHOOSE ONE) :

  1. Write a comment, any comment, on any one of my posts.
  2. OR…Follow @memyselfandfood on Twitter, then tweet the exact message you see below.  Just copy the green text and paste it to your Twitter.

#Paleo giveaway! You could win Dr.Cordains books – THE PALEO DIET & THE PALEO DIET COOKBOOK. @memyselfandfood

The rules:

  • You must be 18 years of age (just so I don’t get myself into any legal trouble:))
  • All “entries” must be submitted by March 31st, 2011.

The three (3) winners will be selected at midnight on March 31st, 2011.  Keep those fingers crossed.   YOU could be the one!   These books just landed in my mailbox, so if you don’t win you’ll always have my upcoming book review:)

Alright, it’s time to make my own Paleo birthday cake:)

hi D, well first off, you dont get off that easy trying to be low key on your birthday. Happy birthday to you and hope all is well. I write this to you from Paris. funny, i was reading through your posts right around time i was wondering to myself – how am i going to maintain my fitness regime with all this travel i have been through. Been in 15 cities on 3 continents in 4 weeks and it does not look like its going to slow down . well , a few answer have emerged from my wondering and one of them developed as i read your blog. First, find hotels with great gyms….thats key…crappy gyms can ruin a whole workout – and this PAris hotel gym sucks . 2nd – get to know the chefs in the hotel, especially as i stay for weeks at a time and give them this book – Paleo diet and have them memorize it . I think as a valued Elite Starwood Gold member its the least they could. 🙂 thanks for the recommendation D. Keep up the dedication to the lifestyle – its a beautiful thing ” Take care of the body and the mind will follow” ….all the best

I came across the hashtag on twitter and spent the last little while exploring your blog (much to the enjoyment of my procrastinating nature). I belong to a non-profit weight loss group called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and am a chapter leader this year. Always looking to bring something new to the discussion table I may need to “borrow” a few ideas. Thanks for the book recommendations too. Winning them would be great, but I will certaily look them up when I am in my favourite booksellers next.

I have been following a “primal” diet since the end of January and have lost 25 pounds so far. I will eventually transition to Paleo I am sure.

I stumbled across your blog today through Twitter’s #Paleo. I’ve been collecting good Paleo and Crossfit related blogs and I continue my quest for health and general BAMF status.

I have to say that Paleo has CHANGED my life. I’m healthier, my anxiety is gone, I have better focus, I’ve dropped 15lbs of fat in a month and a half, have increased in strength, am doing double my workouts, and I don’t miss my old diet at all! The biggest thing is my ALLERGIES which once TERRORIZED my life are now subdued and as the pollen hits I get to watch everyone around my struggle while I just kick back and breathe! Now I’m focusing on rehabilitating myself off my inhalers as I continue to perfect my diet and drop my inflammation levels and strengthen my lungs through cardio.

Believe it or not, cooking seems to be the easy part. It’s finding food to eat when I’m not at home that’s difficult! It really truly feels like foraging when you’re trolling supermarket delis and local restaurants for ingredient lists and actual edible fare. I believe the most wonderful thing about Paleo is, I’ve learned to love and appreciate my food on a whole new level. Everything I prepare is done with pride and enjoyment.

I look forward to following where this takes you and possibly using some of your recipes… thanks for contributing to the Re-Evolution movement!

Congrats to you, Jennifer! Your results are quite impressive.

I couldn’t agree more that living the Paleo way is actually quite simple, particularly when you’re within the 4 walls of your home. Go outside of those walls and the limited Paleolithic options along with the temptations gets challenging. Keep working at it….I’ll be rooting you on!

Oh and I encourage you to check back in for my next Paleo recipe – Cocoa Chili:)

This Paleo diet sounds interesting, but like any diet…I would want to know more about the research that went into it, the potential health benefits, and if there are any reasons why someone should not go on it.

Well Danielle, it looks like you found your calling!! You’ve done a lot of reading/research into something you believe in and that’s great. Of course, there is always one critical comment and that is is that this sounds a lot like the Atkins diet which is also based on the ancesterol diet – I tried that one and found it very difficult to stick to. Like you, I think I’ve always eaten pretty healthy even though some think I’m an extremist when it comes to food preparation, but I am really interested in the recipes in this Paleo’s diet cookbook. Hey, if it helps weight come off, I’m all for it!
Great blog Danielle – you’ve definitely got the knack for it. I’ll try to keep up with them in future.
